Once a fishing village, Quarteira is nowadays one of the Algarve's top resorts. Safe bathing conditions and a sandy beach made it popular with holidaymakers, as well as golfers. Quarteira is within easy reach of several championship golf courses, including the Old Course at Vilamoura and the Royal Course at Vale do Lobo.
