Helsingor (also known as Elsinore) is world famous as the setting of William Shakespeare's Hamlet. The history of Helsingor can be traced back to 70 BC. The oldest parts of the cathedral of Helsingor date back to the 1200s and attests the importance of this fishermen's village in history. Overlooking the border of Sweden, Kronborg Castle is the main tourist attraction of the town.

One of the most important towns in the Scandinavian history. Be sure to visit Frederiksborg Castle, Town Museum ("Bymuseet") and the ruins of Aebelhold monastery, dating from 1175, appertain to the largest monastery in the northern countries that belonged to the Roman Catholic monastic order, The Augustinians.
