The coastal town of Montrose, set between Dundee and Aberdeen, boasts an attractive town center and interesting features such as its library, the Town House, and Montrose Old Church with its landmark 220ft spire erected in 1834. In Market Street is the studio of William Lamb, preserved in memory of the sculptor as a museum. The town sits on the very edge of a nature reserve. The beach road, Marine Avenue, across from the town museum, heads down through sand dunes and golf links to car parks fringing the fine, wide beach overlooked by a slender white lighthouse. Further to the north are the cliffs of St. Cyrus, home in the summer to a bustling colony of seabirds.
