Ohrid is the largest town on Lake Ohrid, considered by conservationists to be the most biodiverse lake in the world. Ohrid, in southwestern North Macedonia, was once known as the `Jerusalem of the Balkans`, and legend had it that the town had 365 churches, one for each day of the year. The number is smaller today, but many of these churches are still in beautiful condition and open to tourists. Both Ohrid and Lake Ohrid are on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. As a matter of fact, Ohrid is one of the most beautiful place in the Balkan Peninsula, which should be preferred more than Skopje. Moreover, it is best to come here between April and October when it is still warm and enjoyable.
